Description
THE PROPOSED WORK TO BE PERFORMED BY UNITED TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH CENTER (UTRC), GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (GT), AND SIKORSKY AIRCRAFT CORP. (SAC) WILL FOCUS ON A HIGH-SPEED WIND-TUNNEL EVALUATION OF ACTIVE FLOW CONTROL (AFC) SYSTEM BASED ON COMBUSTION-POWERED ACTUATOR TECHNOLOGY (COMPACT) FOR SUPPRESSING AIRFOIL DYNAMIC STALL. THE WORK LEADING UP TO THE WIND-TUNNEL TESTING WILL ENCOMPASS CFD SIMULATIONS TO DEVELOP AN AERODYNAMIC DESIGN WHICH MAXIMIZES DYNAMIC STALL SUPPRESSION, LOW-SPEED WIND TUNNEL TESTS TO PROVIDE VALIDATION DATA AND DEVELOP TRANSITORY FLOW CONTROL STRATEGIES, AND MECHANICAL DESIGN OF A HIGH-SPEED DYNAMICALLY PITCHED AIRFOIL MODEL EQUIPPED WITH A COMPACT ACTUATOR ARRAY TO BE INTEGRATED WITH SAC PITCH MECHANISM HARDWARE IN THE NASA GLENN ICING RESEARCH TUNNEL.
